Stop filing a return

This article applies to:Avalara Returns

If you want to stop filing a scheduled return, you have until the last day of the month before the month it's scheduled to be filed to make the change. For example, if you want us to stop filing a return beginning in July, you need to expire the scheduled return by June 30.

Note the following points:

  • Once the final filing period has passed, the return is moved to the Expired list and kept there for your records.
  • Scheduling a return form a second time automatically expires the original version during the new form's first filing period.
  • To start filing a return again in a place where you have previously expired a return, schedule a new return. Returns cannot be "unexpired."

Steps

  1. Go to Returns > View and add returns to view the returns you've scheduled.
If you don't see the return, search for it by name, jurisdiction, or tax type.
  2. Click Details next to the jurisdiction where you want to stop filing.
    The Return settings page appears.
  3. Select Stop filing this return.
  4. From the drop-down, select the final filing period and then select Save final filing period.
