Request representative power of attorney for tax notices

A power of attorney form for notices (also known as a representative or filing power of attorney) allows Avalara to contact a jurisdiction on your client's behalf to resolve any tax notices they receive. If your client receives a notice from a country, state, or province, make sure to add contact information in the power of attorney form for that jurisdiction.



You can also add a representative power of attorney form during the filing request process. Download the power of attorney form from the state website, and upload it when request to when submitting a filing request. If you didn't attach the POA form when submitting a filing request, follow the steps below.

Before you begin

Identify the company officer who can sign the representative power of attorney.


  1. Download the power of attorney form for the jurisdiction that sent the notice.
  2. Complete the form. 
  3. Submit a support case with the completed form attached.
    Make sure to include the following information:
    • AvaTax account name
    • AvaTax company name
    • Region
    • Effective date and expiration date of the power of attorney form

We can begin working to resolve notices on behalf of your clients once we've received the necessary power of attorney form.
