What does the following error indicate: "Unable to create the company. Please make sure the name is unique and check the address."?

Overview

You are in the process of adding a new company to your TrustFile account. However the Add Company info will not save and you receive the error:

"Unable to create the company. Please make sure the name is unique and check the address."

Resolution

  • This error indicates the Company Name has already been used in your account or that the Business Address cannot be validated through the USPS
    • First make sure you have not reused the Taxpayer Company Name
      • Go to the main Company page
      • Under 'Find Company' type in the Taxpayer Company name you would like to use
      • If you find the company name listed, please update that company record or delete it
    • Next test the address in the USPS database
  • If the address is listed in the USPS database of Validated Addresses
    • Make sure you have typed in the address correctly
    • Make sure the city, state, and zip code match each other
    • Try using a different browser, such as Chrome or Firefox
    • Try clearing the cache on your browser, closing and restarting the browser, and re-entering the company details
  • If the address is not listed in the USPS database of Validated Addresses
    • You may enter "General Delivery" to Address line 1 or 2
    • You may reach out to the USPS and request to have the address added to the Validated Addresses Database
      • This option will take some time. The General Delivery option will be immediate
