Why is the ship-to address reformatted after saving in QuickBooks Desktop?

Overview

You want to know why the ship-to address is reformatted when you save the address in QuickBooks Desktop.

Environment

AvaTax for QuickBooks Desktop

Resolution

If the ship-to address has missing address information, the following behavior is noted

  1. To view the Ship To address of a customer, go to QuickBooks Desktop Desktop > Customers > Customer Center > Edit
  2. The Edit Shipping Address Information window displays the following fields:

    • Name: Displays the customer name.
    • Address Name: Name assigned to this address.
    • Address
    • City
    • State / Province
    • Zip / Postal Code
    • Country / Region
    • Note

  3. If information is missing from any of the fields, the fields are moved when you save:
    Before saving the Ship To address After saving the Ship To address
    • The City and State / Province fields are blank.

    • The Address field content is moved to the City field.
    • The Address and State / Province fields are blank.

    • The State / Province and Zip / Postal Code fields are blank.

    • The City field content is added to the Address field.
    • The CityState / Province, and Zip / Postal Code fields are blank.

    • The Note field content is moved to the City field.
