Why didn't my single use exemption certificate apply?

Overview

I used a single use exemption certificate and the certificate did not apply to the invoice

Environment

Avalara AvaTax

Resolution

  • Make sure the PO number used on the invoice matches what is entered in the PO field of the exemption certificate
    • If you've added multiple PO numbers in CertCapture, only the most recent PO number is valid in AvaTax. Run a Sales Tax Exemption Certificates report to see the valid PO number in the Invoice/PO Number field.
  • The effective date of the exemption certificate must be on or before the date of the invoice.
