Why can't I do a test connection?

Overview

You are getting an error when you try to check your credentials in a User Authentication test:

Error: User and or account can not be authenticated

Environment

Avalara AvaTax

Resolution

  • Check your credentials directly in the Admin Console using your username and password
    • Once logged in, verify:
      • Account number matches the one listed in the upper right hand corner
      • Service URL includes the same "AvaTax" or "Development" as the Admin Console URL
    • If all information is correct, the issue is likely an out of date license key: How do I find my License key?
