Why are sales being listed on the wrong line on my IL return?

You have reviewed your IL return and found that sales amounts were listed under the wrong line.

Resolution

  • The IL ST-1 has specific lines to place gross sales depending if you are an intrastate or interstate vendor.

    • Intrastate (location within Illinois) sales are reported on lines 4a and 5a.

    • Interstate (locations outside of Illinois) sales are reported on lines 6a and 7a.

  • If sales were reported on lines 4a and/or 5a, this means you calculated sales tax.

    • Your nexus tax type is set to Sales Tax, or

    • Your nexus tax type is set to Sales and Sellers Use tax and the origin address of transaction(s) is within Illinois.

  • If sales were reported on lines 6a and/or 7a, this means you calculated sellers use tax.

    • Your nexus tax type is set to Sales and Sellers Use tax and the origin address of transaction(s) is outside Illinois.

    • Your nexus tax type is set to Sales tax and the origin address of transaction(s) is outside Illinois.

      • Line 22 for Excess tax, surcharge, and assessment collected will be filled out for any taxes collected over the rate of 6.25%.

  • You can confirm the tax type you collected in a given period by running the Sales and Sellers Use Tax Summary report in the admin console.
