Why am I receiving a user could not be authenticated error when trying to place orders to Avatax?

Overview

Whenever I try to send transaction data to Avatax through our accounting software I receive a user could not be authenticated error.

Resolution

  • Some integration actually use a specific user name to send transactions data to the admin console.
    • In this case be sure the user in integration settings has current credentials for logging into the admin console.
  • If your credentials list you account number instead of a user name, check your license key:

 

Note: It is best to set up a user role not specific to an actual person for this purpose as to avoid their leaving the company and deactivating their admin console from breaking your connection to the service.
