What should be listed in the address fields?


You want to know what information should be listed in the address fields in a GetTax call.


Avalara AvaTax API


  • List only the customer address, starting with street address on line 1, Suite, or apartment etc. on line 2 and the City, State/Province and Zip/Postal code in those labeled fields
    • Alternatively you can use Latitude and Longitude coordinates for US locations
    • Not all information is required, full requirements here


Note: Listing any information other than the address in the address fields is not recommended, it can prevent our address validation from validating the address, which will likely result in tax based on the postal code rather than the full address. If you must list non-address information, list it in Line 3, not with the actual street address.
