What do we need to do for backdated transactions?

Overview

You see a backdated transaction alert on the Home tab, and want to know what you need to do.

Resolution

  • You get this alert any time that a transaction is added with a document date prior to the first day of the current month.
    • Alerts on the Admin Console display details about the dates and amounts for each backdated transaction.
  • Your next step is to review the transactions in that list.
    • Transactions dated during a tax period where Avalara has already filed the return, and you want that to be included in your tax return, you need to do one of two things:
      • Leave that date and have us file an amended return  or
      • Change the date of the transaction to move it to the current period
    • Transactions dated during a tax period where Avalara has not yet filed (Example, they are dated in 2015 and we have not yet filed the 2015 annual return) you do not need to take any additional action
    • You file your own returns, you need to review internally if you should file an amended return, or move the transaction to the current period.
