How do I resolve the import error: "Index was outside the bounds of the array"?

Overview

When you import it results in the error message: "Index was outside the bounds of the array"

Environment

Avalara AvaTax

Resolution

  • This error occurs when the Header row is missing one or more fields or has extra fields entered 
  • Download a new import template  
    • Admin Console > Import Data
    • Choose your import type: Transaction import, Tax Rule Import, etc
    • Once the page reloads, press the Download button
  • Copy the information into the new import template
    • Do not adjust the new import template to match the headers on the old import template
    • Skip the header row in the old import template and copy over your entries one column at a time into the correct columns in the new import template
