Uninstall the AvaTax integration for QuickBooks Desktop

If you're using AvaTax for QuickBooks Desktop version 1.00.85 or earlier, you must uninstall the integration software before installing the latest version. In most cases, simply uninstalling AvaTax for QuickBooks Desktop is enough. However, in some cases, you may need to uninstall AvaTax for QuickBooks Desktop and remove all AvaTax files from QuickBooks Desktop.

Steps

Uninstall AvaTax for QuickBooks Desktop

  1. Close all QuickBooks Desktop and AvaTax processes in the Windows Task Manager
    1. Open Windows Task Manager.
    2. Select the Processes tab.
    3. End any QuickBooks Desktop, AvaTax, or Avalara-related process.
  2. Remove the AvaTax for QuickBooks Desktop application from Windows.
    1. Open Windows Control Panel.
    2. Navigate to Add / Remove programs.
    3. Locate AvaTax for QuickBooks.
    4. Select Uninstall.

Uninstall AvaTax for QuickBooks Desktop and remove all AvaTax files from QuickBooks Desktop, including subfolders created when you installed AvaTax for QuickBooks Desktop

  1. Use the Rollback tax schedule utility to unassign the AvaTax tax item from your customers.
  2. Remove AvaTax from the list of integrated applications in QuickBooks Desktop.
    1. In QuickBooks Desktop, go to Edit > Preferences > Integrated Applications > Company Preferences.
    2. Select AvaTax and then select Remove.
    3. Exit QuickBooks Desktop.
  3. Close all QuickBooks Desktop and AvaTax processes in the Windows Task Manager.
    1. Open Windows Task Manager.
    2. Select the Processes tab.
    3. End any QuickBooks Desktop, AvaTax, or Avalara-related process.
  4. Remove the AvaTax for QuickBooks Desktop application from Windows.
    1. Open Windows Control Panel.
    2. Navigate to Add / Remove programs.
    3. Locate AvaTax for QuickBooks.
    4. Select Uninstall.
  5. Delete all Avalara folders from your QuickBooks Desktop files on your computer.
    1. Navigate to C:\Program Files\ (or C:\Program Files (x86) for 64-bit Windows) and delete the Avalara folder.
    2. With QuickBooks Desktop open, select F2.
    3. Navigate through the file path next to Location.

    4. Delete the Avalara folder at the end of this file path.
