Certificate renewal for specific AvaTax Excise customers
Last night, at 7:37 pm Central time (USA), security certificates were automatically updated for these 2 sites:
At this time, only 4 customers are known to be affected and have been notified by email. This article is primarily intended to be shared with your IT department. If they have questions, please have your Support Contact open a Support Case.
Returns Excise
Returns Excise users should not have to do anything - the supported browsers, Chrome, Firefox, Edge and Internet Explorer automatically receive the new certificates.If you are unable to connect, contact your IT department.
AvaTax Excise
AvaTax Excise customers may need to manually download and apply the new certificates. Here's how your IT department can do this:
Chrome

Go to Production (https://excise.avalara.net) and click the lock icon to the left of the URL

Click the certificate

Select the Details tab and click the Copy to File . . . button

Click the Next button at the welcome screen

Make sure that DER encoded binary X.509 (.CER) is selected and click the Next button.

Click the Browse . . . button (do not fill in the File name: field)

Choose a folder and name to save the file, for example, "excise-avalara-net" on your Desktop and click Save

Click Next,

and then Finish and finally OK to save the certificate.

Repeat these steps for UA (test) at https://exciseUA.avalara.net (step 1) and be sure to choose a different file name in step 7.

Firefox
- Go to Production (https://excise.avalara.net) and click the lock icon to the left of the URL

- Click the arrow to show the Connection details (above)
- Click More information at the bottom

- Select Security at the top and then click the View Certificate button

- Select the Details tab and then click the Export ... button

- From the Save as type: field, select X.509 Certificate (DER) (*.der)

- Choose a folder and name to save the file, for example, "excise-avalara-net" on your Desktop and click Save

- Repeat these steps for UA (test) at https://exciseUA.avalara.net (step 1) and be sure to choose a different file name in step 7.
