        Note:

Deleting a jurisdiction is not recommended except when a jurisdiction is added mistakenly.

Changing the end date for a jurisdiction to today's date is strongly recommended instead. This allows AvaTax to process transactions such as returns or credit memos that may be entered.

Removing a country from country jurisdictions removes the associated region jurisdictions and local jurisdictions.

Edit begin or end dates for a jurisdiction

AvaTax processes transactionsHoverTT.png based partly on jurisdictions and dates. AvaTax does not process transactions associated with addresses in a jurisdiction if the document date is after the end date. Change the end date for the jurisdiction to a date in the past. Change the begin date and/or end date for a jurisdiction to meet your business transaction processing needs.

AvaTax-Organization-Nexus-Begin and End Dates.png

For example:

  • If your business is going to establish nexusHoverTT.png in a jurisdiction, you can set the begin date to that future date. When AvaTax processes a transaction for that jurisdiction, it calculates tax based on the document date occurring between the two dates.
  • Conversely, if your business will no longer have nexus in a jurisdiction, you can set the end date to that future date. When AvaTax processes a transaction for that jurisdiction, it calculates tax based on the document date occurring between the two dates.
  • End Date 12/31/2099 will end nexus at 11:59:59 PM on 12/31/2099
