Change payment method

Invoice totals are automatically charged to your default payment method on its due date. Invoices can be paid with a credit or debit card, or an electronic withdrawal from a bank account. Currently, Avalara doesn’t accept other methods of payment (such as wire transfer or PayPal).

When you pay through the web application, you’re enrolled in automatic payments. If you encounter an error or if you need to update your payment method after a payment is declined, contact support.

Before you begin


  1. In AvaTax, go to Account > Billing.
  2. Select the payment methods tab to view current and previous payment methods.
  3. Avalara supports two payment method types. Select Add beside the method you need.
    • Credit / Debit card
      Enter the card information and select Save. 
      Avalara accepts most major credit cards: Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express.
    • Bank Account
      Download the bank authorization form, complete it, and send it to your bank. Select I sent the form once your bank has received the document.
  4. Enter your card information or bank account details and then select Save.
