Set Up Wyoming Returns

Tell Us Where You Collect Tax

Add Wyoming to the places where you collect tax. This tells AvaTax to calculate tax on Wyoming transactions. See the Wyoming Department of Revenue website for details about nexus, registration, and taxes in Wyoming.

Before you add Wyoming, there are two things you need to do:

You don't have to select a tax type for Wyoming.

"Sourcing" determines the location where a sale is taxed. Wyoming is a destination-sourced state.

Add Your Company Locations

Wyoming doesn't require location reporting on the returns. Add any physical locations you have in Wyoming to enhance your company setup and track sales by location.

Schedule Your Returns

After you tell us where you collect tax and add locations, you're ready to schedule returns. Go to Returns in AvaTax to provide a funding power of attorney and schedule your returns

Your company name and taxpayer ID from Your Company Details show up on your returns. Make sure they match what’s on your registration information.

Use this info to schedule your returns. Keep in mind that the selections you made when you told us where you collect tax, any location codes you entered, and the forms you select are related and should tie together.

All tax types are reported on a single Wyoming sales and use tax form. The form you use depends on your filing frequency. Confirm your filing frequency with the registration information provided by the state.

  • Select form WY 41, Wyoming Sales and Use Tax Return for Licensed Vendors if you file monthly or quarterly
  • Select form WY 42-1, Wyoming Sales and Use Tax Return if you file annually

When you register with Wyoming, you get an eight-digit registration ID, an RID number, and a PIN. Your user name, password, and PIN are required to file electronically using the Wyoming Internet Filing System for Business. Use the RID number to get your PIN, if you don't know what it is.

The estimated sales volume you declare on your Wyoming Sales/Use Tax License Application initially determines your filing frequency. The sales volume is used to calculate the tax amount you're likely to collect each month which is used to determine your filing frequency.
