Power of Attorney

New York requires a Power of Attorney (POA) for Avalara to resolve notices for you.

To submit a POA:

  1. Obtain and complete a New York POA-1 Power of Attorney form
  2. Fax the completed POA form to the New York Department of Taxation at 518-435-8617
  3. Send the completed POA form and notice to us by submitting a case. Processing takes about 6 - 8 weeks.

After we have a POA on file, you don't have to submit another one unless something has changed.

Common Issues

These are the most common notice issues to resolve for New York. See Manage Tax Notices for additional details about resolving notice issues.

Issue Action

Requests for additional information

New York looks for supporting documents for various reasons. You need to provide the supporting documents, which are found in AvaTax, directly to the state. Submit a case if you'd like to have professional services help you with this (for a fee).

Schedule H Schedule H: Clothing Sales is often an issue.  You must tell Avalara if Schedule H is required.
