Set Up Nevada Returns

This article applies to:Returns Central

Tell Us Where You Collect Tax

Add Nevada to the places where you collect tax. This tells AvaTax to calculate tax on Nevada transactions. See the Nevada Department of Taxation website for details about nexus, registration, and taxes in Nevada.

Before you add Nevada, there are two things you need to do:

You don't have to select a tax type for Nevada.

"Sourcing" determines the location where a sale is taxed. Nevada is a destination-sourced state.

Add Your Company Locations

Add any physical locations you have in Nevada. Nevada doesn't require location reporting on the sales and use tax return, as long as you apply for a consolidated location sales and use tax registration. If you don't have a consolidated location registration, then you must register and file a separate return for each location. We recommend consolidating locations.

After you validate the address when you add a location, make sure it falls in the jurisdictions you expect. If not, you may want to manage your jurisdiction overrides.

If you're not consolidating your locations:

  • Register each of your Nevada business locations. The state assigns a unique registration ID number for each location.
  • Add the locations in AvaTax
  • Include your AvaTax location codes on your transactions so the taxes can be reported by location

Schedule Your Returns

After you tell us where you collect tax and add locations, you're ready to schedule returns. Go to Returns in AvaTax to provide a funding power of attorney and schedule your returns

Your company name and taxpayer ID from Your Company Details show up on your returns. Make sure they match what’s on your registration information.

Use this info to schedule your returns. Keep in mind that the selections you made when you told us where you collect tax, any location codes you entered, and the forms you select are related and should tie together.

Select a form based on the tax type you're reporting and whether you're reporting physical locations separately or consolidated on a single return.

  • Select form NV TXR01 to report all sales and use tax
  • If you're registered to report your locations separately, add a separate NV TXR01 return for each location
    • Indicate the AvaTax location code and the state-assigned registration ID when you schedule the return
    • Submit a case for help setting up the returns to correctly report each location
  • Select form NV TXR 02 01 if you report only consumer use tax on purchases for consumption within the state. If you file the NV TXR01 sales and use tax return, you don't need to add the NV TR 02 01 return.

Enter your state-assigned registration ID as it appears on your registration information. It's a ten-digit number with a three-digit suffix. Example: 1234567891-011

Create an online account with the Nevada Department of Taxation to confirm your filing frequency and registration information.
