Edit where your client collects tax

You should regularly review the jurisdictions where your client collects tax. If you notice any changes, update the client's nexus settings to keep your client's information up to date.

You can edit these settings at a country, state, and local level.

Note

The upper-level jurisdiction must be enabled before you can enable the next lower-level jurisdiction. For example, US must be enabled before you can enable the Arizona jurisdiction, which must be enabled before you can enable the Apache Junction jurisdiction.

Before you begin

Review the client’s tax profile to determine if there have been any changes to their taxing jurisdictions.

Steps

  1. In Managed Returns for Accountants, hover over the Filing Calendars and then select Nexus Management.
    The Nexus Management screen opens.
  2. Use the Filters pane on the left to locate the desired company and nexus group type, then select Go.
  3. Decide which type of change you need to make:
    • Add a new country or state: See the Add where your client collects tax guide for the full instructions.
    • Adjust the effective date or end date of a country, state, or province: Select clipboard_edefeb6be31b99ed75233d7d245538d84.png to the left of the jurisdiction name, then select Edit. Adjust the dates, then select Save to save your changes.
    • Adjust the effective date or end date of a local jurisdiction: Select the Locals button to the far right of the jurisdiction name, then select Edit to the far right of the jurisdiction name. Adjust the dates, then select Update to save your changes.
    • Expire nexus in a region: Follow the steps above, but set an effective date in the past.
