You want to know as a Trustfile user, how you are affected by the Washington State’s Marketplace Fairness law
On January 1, 2018 the State of Washington implemented new requirements for sales tax collection and remittance for online marketplaces that include marketplace facilitators, remote sellers and/or referrers. Visit the Department of Revenue for related information on its website.
The new rules apply to companies using marketplace facilitators, remote sellers and/or referrers to facilitate the sale of your products.
Avalara TrustFile Customers using the Amazon, Walmart and Etsy connectors or file uploads using the default exports will not need to make any changes.
- With both methods of importing transactions, TrustFile assumes that tax collected in Washington by these marketplace facilitators has already been remitted by the Marketplace Fairness vendor.
- Washington Marketplace Fairness transactions will show tax remitted by the Marketplace Fairness vendor as deductions on line 9 on the Deductions table on page 3 of the form.
- No change is necessary for customers using either PDF file or concierge filing.
- You will be able to review and approve this month’s (February, 2018) returns according to our normal “approve by” dates.
If you are an Amazon, Walmart or Etsy marketplace seller uploading files into Trustfile in some other format or if you are using a Marketplace outside of Amazon, Walmart or Etsy please contact Avalara Customer Support.
