Why does enabling feature "allow tax override," in Salesforce make opportunities finalize regardless of their stage?

We have tax override enabled and even our opportunities are finalizing when calculating.

This is expected behavior:

  • As soon as tax amounts at the line level are specified, that amount becomes the tax override for that line. You can manually change it, but all calculations will be using tax amount overrides, if any data, even 0's, exist.
  • If you are using an tax override you will need to add or remove a line in order to update it after it has calculated and is set to finalized, or simply stop using a tax override.

**Note** The opportunity isn't technically finalized, since you can add a line or remove a line to force it to recalculate. If it were truly finalized you would not be able to modify it at all.
