Why can I not choose Name and Country in the QuickBooks Customer Tax Item Update Utility?

Overview

You need to update several customers to use Avalara to calculate tax, but the utility (under File > AvaTax > Configuration > Tax Calculation > Customer Tax Item Update Utility) will not let you select customer by Name and Country.

Resolution

  • Name and Country requires all customers to have a country entered on their record before this section is active 
    • You can select All Entry or Display Name.
  • To add the missing country, validate the customer addresses or manually add the country to those records
