How do I resolve the error "An nlobjSearchColumn contains an invalid column, or is not in proper syntax: custrecord_ava_defcompanycode"?

Overview

When invoicing in Netsuite Oneworld, after updating to bundle 4.x, I am receiving the error "An nlobjSearchColumn contains an invalid column, or is not in proper syntax: custrecord_ava_defcompanycode."

Environment

Netsuite Oneworld - bundle 4.x

Resolution

  • This error is usually caused by two settings:
    • Using custom forms that are not set as taxable
      • Log into Netsuite as SA or Admin, pull up the invoice/order with the custom form
      • Click on the Customize option (on the invoice), then go to Screenfields > Columns
        • Review this list and make sure the option 'Tax' is checked for all items on the list
    • The AvaTax company code, and/or other credentials, is not listed in the Avalara configuration.
      • Go to Avalara >Setup >Configure Avalara
        • Validate the credentials
        • In the Tax Calculation tab, select the AvaTax company code for each subsidiary.
    • If both of these don't work this can be caused caching issue and trying from a private browsing session is recommended
