How can I force destination tax sourcing in Dynamics NAV?

You want to know how to make the tax jurisdictions that apply to a sale to be based on the destination address rather than the origin and also force sales tax instead of use tax.

Microsoft Dynamics NAV

  • Use the Tax Area Code AVATAX-POD (created by the Avatax for Dynamics NAV installer) as a special Tax Area code for forcing destination sourcing on a transaction.
    • If used, the ship-to address from a transaction will be sent to the AvaTax Service as both the origin and destination addresses.
  • Example for this special situation:
    • You have sales people who travel on site to customer locations to sell and deliver/distribute goods at the same time, you might want to force the taxes to trigger on the destination, even in mixed sourcing or origin based states.
