Why am I getting an invalid state/province code in Dynamics NAV from Avatax?

Overview

I have an international sale and when I place the country in the state/province field I get an error that states invalid/missing state/province from Avatax.

Dynamics NAV

Resolution

  • This is actually a NAV setup issue. 
  • The ISO code for a specific country should go in the country field, not the state/province field.
  • If you do not see a country field in the general section of your transaction in Dynamics NAV you will need to have your NAV admin make the country field visible on your forms within NAV itself.
