Avalara Help Center

Avalara will stop supporting AvaTax Local, a feature of AvaTax Point of Sale, effective December 31, 2018. What does this mean for you?

If you are an AvaTax Point of Sale customer relying on the AvaTax Local functionality, contact your Customer Account Manager (CAM) immediately.

AvaTax Local historically has performed two functions. When a user’s system is not connected to the internet, AvaTax Local enables:

  • the calculation of tax.
  • batch upload of transactions on a scheduled basis.

Once Avalara deprecates this feature, users of AvaTax Local may fail to accurately calculate sales tax in their AvaTax Point of Sale environments.

AvaTax Local users must reconfigure the AvaTax Point of Sale integration to stop relying on AvaTax Local prior to December 31, 2018

There are three ways to do so:

Option 1 – Customers may be able to use a connector that provides offline content functionality. Your CAM can help you identify whether your system is a candidate for this option.

Option 2 – Customers can use the TaxContent Rest API for in-store offline tax content.

Option 3 – Customers may cancel their subscriptions effective on their next renewal date.

Customers should work with their CAMs to find alternatives to the AvaTax Local functionality. If a solution does not work, subscriptions must be canceled prior to a customer’s next renewal.  Please note that renewals are noncancelable and nonrefundable.
