Alabama will hold its annual Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday, beginning Friday, July 16, 2021 at 12:01 AM EDT and ending Sunday, July 18, 2021 at 12:00 midnight EDT. During this time, sales of certain clothing, computers, software, books, and school supplies are exempt from state sales tax.
A county or municipality, by resolution or ordinance adopted at least 30 days prior to the last full weekend of July, may provide for the exemption of “covered items” from county or municipal sales or use taxes during the same time period, under the same terms, conditions, and definitions as provided for the state sales tax holiday. At the time of maintenance release deadlines, sales tax holiday rules were deployed into AvaTax production for the participating jurisdictions that gave timely notice on the Alabama Department of Revenue website. These are listed on the Sales Tax Holiday section of Avalara AvaTax Update Maintenance Updates.
However, following Avalara's release deadlines, these jurisdictions were added to the Alabama DOR's list of participating local government jurisdictions:
Because the above jurisdictions gave late notice, they were not included in the AvaTax update deployment.
