Why is my prepayment amount zero on the liability worksheet?


You are required file prepayments for certain states but noticed that the liability worksheet displays a zero.


Avalara Returns


  • Prepayment requirements must be reported to Avalara in order for them to be filed.
    • If Avalara has not been notified of this requirement, the prepayments process has not been setup for your company for them to be calculated and added to your worksheet.
  • If there is no transaction data in AvaTax in the correct month, then there will be no data for us to calculate the prepayment on.
    • Prepayments are calculated from transactional data in AvaTax.
      • Some are calculated from the current month
      • Some are calculated from the same month of the prior year
    • To correct this issue
      • You can do the calculation in house and enter that amount onto your liability worksheet, or
      • You can add your transaction data to AvaTax for those missing months so that AvaTax can calculate the prepayment automatically.
