Why is "You're collecting tax in jurisdictions where you don't have filing calendars. Before you approve this worksheet, ensure you're scheduled to file in the right jurisdictions" on my Liability Worksheet?

Overview

I am getting the "You're collecting tax in jurisdictions where you don't have filing calendars. Before you approve this worksheet, ensure you're scheduled to file in the right jurisdictions" message at the top of my liability worksheet and I need to know why.

Resolution

  • You are receiving the message because you have enabled nexus for a jurisdiction but do not currently have an active filing calendar for it.

    • To review your Liability Worksheet Jurisdictions, you can expand each State or Province using the arrow on the left of the line.

      • If the Filing Type then shows 'No registration information provided', this is what is triggering the error.  Please contact that local jurisdiction's Department of Revenue to ensure which form to file. (to add the missing form, please see the section below.)

  • To review the jurisdictions that have nexus selected but are missing a filing calendar:

    • Click Review your Filing Calendars

      • This will take you to the Filing Calendars section of the Tax Returns tab.

    • Click in the Jurisdictions without a Filing Calendar section

  • If you have nexus in Self Administered States ('Home Rule")such as Colorado, Mississippi, Alabama, Arizona, Louisiana, Alaska, or Idaho and have selected all when it comes to maintaining local jurisdictions- then there are additional filing calendars for local jurisdictions in each state that need to be set up.

Note: You may see multiple forms for the same jurisdiction. This is just displaying all of the form options for that specific jurisdiction. Once you select a form the other options should disappear.

You may see forms for a jurisdiction you already have a filing calendar setup in. This is because the nexus selections you have established may require multiple forms. To determine what forms you are required to file, please reach out to the state Department of Revenue as they will be able to look up the details of your registration.
