What does this error mean: "There is an expired record for this Jurisdiction with the same Begin Date"?

Overview

You are trying to activate nexus for a state or local jurisdiction, when you try to save this error is given:

 "There is an expired record for this Jurisdiction with the same Begin Date".

Resolution

  • This error shows that nexus must have already been enabled at some point for the dates specified.
    • You can test this on the Basic or Advanced Tax Calculator, found on the Tools tab in the Admin Console, by doing a test transaction on the dates you are trying to enable nexus for
    • If you get a tax calculation this means nexus was enabled in that period
  • To fix this issue, change the begin and/or end dates of the jurisdiction before saving the nexus change
    • For example, you would like to activate nexus for New York between 3/15/12 and 8/4/13 but receive the error message when saving. 
    • Change your begin date to 2/12/12 or 3/14/12 or change the end date to 8/5/13 or 9/1/13
