Why does this error message mean: "Tax Jurisdiction code is missing for the tax area code."?

Overview

When the customer is trying to post a returns invoice they get the error message that the "Tax Jurisdiction code is missing for the tax area code."

Environment

Microsoft Dynamics NAV

Avalara AvaTax for Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013

Resolution

  • In Tax Details page, go to Departments > Financial Management > Setup > Sales Tax/Tax Details
    • Add a line where:
      • Tax Jurisdiction Code is "AVATAX,
      • Tax Group Code is blank,
      • Tax Type is "Sales and Use Tax"
