Why did I receive a notice about updating my Georgia Tax Center account username?

Overview

You may have received the following email from the Georgia Department of Revenue indicating that your username will need to be updated and would like to know if there is any pending action for you.

"This is an official communication sent to you by the Georgia Department of Revenue regarding your Georgia Tax Center account. 

The Georgia Department of Revenue is updating your GTC username due to security enhancements. Beginning October 30th, you will be prompted to update your username with the requirements below. 

Usernames have the following requirements: 

Minimum of 6 characters 
Maximum of 30 characters 
No special characters allowed 
No spaces allowed 
No upper case characters allowed 

Your current username is: XXXXX  

What happens if I do nothing? 

Your username will be automatically changed on July 1st, 2018. You will not be able to modify your username once changed.

Please note: 

Your password has not been and will not be modified by the Department. 
You can retrieve your username and password if forgotten at https://gtc.dor.ga.gov/. 
No one from the Department of Revenue will ever ask for your password via email or telephone."

  • Beginning October 30th, tax payers will be prompted to update the username used to sign into the Georgia Tax Center .
    • The following are the new requirements of the username:
      • Minimum of 6 characters 
      • Maximum of 30 characters 
      • No special characters allowed 
      • No spaces allowed 
      • No upper case characters allowed
  • If the change is not completed, your username will be automatically changed on July 1st, 2018.
    • You will not be able to modify your username once changed.
  • If you have any further questions, please contact the Georgia Department of Revenue.
  • If Avalara is filing your GA sales tax return, please update your filing calendar with the new username.
