Resolution

  • When using APO/FPO/DPO addresses, make sure to follow the USPS guidelines, outlined here
  • For all other US & CA addresses:
    • Address 1: Street address (Required)
    • Address 2: Suite, Apt. or building (Optional)
    • Address 3: Suite, Apt. or building (Optional)
    • City: City name (Required if PostalCode isn't specified)
    • State: State name or abbreviation (Required if PostalCode isn't specified)
    • ZIP/Postal code: 5 or 9 digit zip code (Required if City and Region aren't specified)
    • Country: US or CA

Note: For validated addresses updated to the standard USPS format, Address 2 or 3 information could be moved to Address 1 based on USPS data.

  • For International addresses:
    • Address 1: Street address (Optional)
    • Address 2: Suite, Apt. or building (Optional)
    • Address 3: Suite, Apt. or building (Optional)
    • City: City name (Optional)
    • State: State name or abbreviation (Optional)
    • ZIP/Postal code: 5 or 9 digit zip code (Optional)
    • Country: See JurisCode list for proper two digit country abbreviations (Required)

Note: AvaTax only relies on the Country Code to determine tax and jurisdiction on international transactions (outside of the US and Canada). However, if you enter a full address for an international transaction, you may see address validation errors during tax calculation if one or more address lines are left out (This will depend on the accounting system you use with Avatax). If you need to check the formatting of your international address, please look up the standard formatting of addresses on the associated country's postal office site or Google the correct format.
