Overview

Resolution

  • Alabama local jurisdictions are either state-administered, self-administered, or privately-administered.
    • The administration of a given jurisdiction determines which filing calendar you need to add in order for Avalara to file returns for this jurisdiction on your behalf.
  • State-administered local jurisdictions are administered by the Alabama Department of Revenue.
    • These jurisdictions are filed electronically on the Alabama MAT website through your Local Tax account, which has an “LCL-“ prefix.
    • If you would like Avalara to file returns for your Alabama state-administered local jurisdictions, you will need to add the AL 9501 filing calendar.
      • Please make sure to include your Local Tax account number and MAT website login credentials in this filing calendar for our returns team.
  • Self-administered local jurisdictions administer their own tax.
    • Each self-administered jurisdiction requires a separate registration ID, and may also have a different filing frequency from your 9501 return.
    • Avalara files these jurisdictions electronically on the Alabama MAT website.
    • These jurisdictions are not part of the 9501 return, so each self-administered jurisdiction that you would like Avalara to file on your behalf requires a separate filing calendar

Note: Anniston, Section, and Weaver are privately-administered jurisdictions, but for Avalara purposes they are treated as self-administered jurisdictions. The associated filing calendars for these jurisdictions are AL Anniston, AL Section, AL Section PJ, AL Weaver Sales, and AL Weaver Use

  • Privately-administered local jurisdictions are administered by a private collecting firm (RDS or STACS).
    • RDS (Revenue Discovery Systems) administered jurisdictions are filed by Avalara on SalesTaxOnline.com.
      • You can create a login and register for an RDS account number through this website.
        • If you would like Avalara to file your RDS return, you will need to add the AL Alatax Universal filing calendar.
          • Please make sure to include your SalesTaxOnline login credentials and RDS account number in this filing calendar for our returns team.
    • STACS (Sales Tax Auditing & Collection Service, Inc) administered jurisdictions are filed by Avalara on click2file.net.
      • You can create a login and register for a STACS number through this website.
      • If you would like Avalara to file your STACS return, you will need to add the AL Stacs Combined filing calendar.
        • Please make sure to include your click2file.net login credentials and STACS account number in this filing calendar for our returns team.
    • If you would like Avalara to file your RDS and STACS jurisdictions electronically, you will need to create online accounts at SalesTaxOnline and click2file.net, respectively.

Note: It is possible that you may have previously filed your RDS and/or STACS jurisdictions through the Alabama MAT website. At this time, Avalara is not set up to file these jurisdictions through MAT, as these returns are generated separately from the state and self-administered jurisdictions.

  • Administration for specific Alabama local jurisdictions is subject to change.
