How do I resolve the error "Tax Override cannot be applied. No Taxable details found to apply tax." when adding a transaction to the Admin Console?

Overview

I am receiving the error "Tax Override cannot be applied. No Taxable details found to apply tax." when adding a new tranaction.

Resolution

  • This error means that you are trying to apply tax when there is no tax can apply.
  • This is usually done by a Tax Override 
  • The causes of this can be:
    • You are not set to collect tax in that location, known as nexus.
      • Check for nexus in the Admin Console 
      • If no nexus is selected you will not be able to dictate tax. 
    • A tax code used makes the item non taxable in that jurisdiction
      • Check if the item is using a tax code.
      • You can also use the Basic Tax Calculator in the Tools tab to test for item taxability
      • If the tax code is non taxable, it will have to be removed in order to define the tax
    • The customer is marked as exempt.
      • Check for an exemption in the Exemptions page in the Admin Console
      • Or if adding the transaction manually, see if an entity use code is being used or a value is in the exemption number field.
      • If the customer is exempt, you will not be able to dictate the tax.
    • Your tax amount goes past 2 decimal places. 
      • The amount can only go out 2 decimals I.E. "10.12"
