How do I resolve the error "Failed to call tax service, Document not found" in Dynamics CRM?

Overview

When trying to save an invoice you receive the following error:

"Failed to call tax service. Message: DocumentNotFoundError
Summary: The tax document could not be found"

Environment

Microsoft Dynamics CRM

Resolution

  • When attempting to save a transaction, CRM looks for a document to save.
    • If the transaction is not present, it will result in the error message: Document not found
  • To resolve this issue:
    • Locate the document in question in CRM
    • Recalculate the tax by pressing CTRL-T or Saving the transaction
    • Try to post the document again
  • If you are not able to locate the invoice in CRM, create a new invoice.
