Regenerate an Avalara Extractor API key

Though you can find both the API keys and license keys associated with your account in Avalara at Settings > License and API keys, they differ in two important ways: 

  1. API keys are associated with an individual user, whereas license keys are associated with an account.
  2. You can have multiple API keys at one time (an API key is created each time you set up an extractor for a company), but only one license key.

Some transaction errors direct you to regenerate your API key.


  1. In Avalara, go to Settings > Integrations.
  2. Select Regenerate API key next to the Extractor connection for the transaction with the error.
  3. Select Yes.
    The key regenerates immediately.
