Calculate communication tax for a free text invoice

Follow the steps to create a free text invoice and calculate communication tax.

Steps

  1. In Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations, select Modules > Accounts receivable > Invoices > All free text invoices.
  2. Select New to create a new free text invoice.
  3. Enter the required information on the free text invoice page.
    Ensure that you have mapped the correct customer type and lifeline parameter in the customer master as required. Learn more
  4. Select OK.
  5. Select Header tab > Setup, and then select AVACOMM as the sales tax group.
  6. Select the Lines tab and add a line item.
  7. Under the Line details section, select AvaTax for Communications tab.
  8. Select a sales type, transaction type, and service type.
  9. Enter values for Lines and Minutes. The lines and minutes values depend on the Transaction and Service pairs selected.
    Lines (if applicable) Represents the number of phone lines sold to the customer and defaults to 1. VoIP and Local service accounts should include a transaction for VoIP/Lines or Local/Lines, which identifies the number of phone lines sold to that customer. AFC Customer Portal uses this information for the generation of per-line taxes (frequently local E911 charges and state telecommunications relay service fees).
    Minutes (if applicable) Specifies the duration of usage-based communications services; defaults to 10.00. For the generation of taxes that are specified as per-minute fees in some taxing jurisdictions. The value should be expressed in decimal format; for example, 20 minutes and 30 seconds would be 20.5 minutes.
  10. Select Save.
  11. Select Sales tax to calculate the tax.

View header-level tax summary

The summary page displays the information such as exempt sale amount, tax amount, charges, etc. It displays a summary at the header level and does not include the line-level taxes.

  1. Navigate to AFC tax summary to view the tax summary breakup for a transaction.

View line-level tax details

The tax details page displays the tax details for line-level items added to the transaction.

  1. Navigate to AFC tax details to view the tax details for the transaction.
    Or,
    Select AFC tax details to view the tax details for the line.
