Request a CertCapture exemption certificate in QuickBooks Desktop

If your company uses CertCapture, you can request exemption certificates from one customer at a time in QuickBooks Desktop. If you want to request exemption certificates from many customers at once, you have to make the request directly in CertCapture.

Steps

  1. In QuickBooks Desktop, go to File > AvaTax > Utilities and then select Avalara CertCapture.
  2. Select the customer whose certificate you want to request.
  3. Go to the Initiate an Exemption Request tab.
    1. Under Send Method section, select a communication option to complete the exemption certificate request.
    2. Add custom instructions when you select the Communication Mode as Fax.
    3. Select Initiate Certificate Request.

A message displays letting you know whether the request was successful. You also receive a tracking code.
