Configure automatic tax calculation

Use workflow rules or apex triggers to automate tax calculation on opportunities, quotes, and orders. Refer to Salesforce Sales Cloud documentation for specific steps for creating workflow rules and apex triggers.

Automate tax calculation with a workflow rule

To trigger automatic tax calculation on opportunities, quotes, and orders, you must create a rule for each. See Salesforce help for instructions on creating a workflow rule. When creating the workflow rule:

  • Create a workflow rule to select the Calculate Tax checkbox on these objects
  • The criteria must be set to "created, and any time it's edited to subsequently meet criteria."
  • If you create a line-level workflow rule, limit it to triggering only at creation and when Quantity or Amount are edited.

AvaTax works with default settings after you complete these steps. Make changes to the settings to meet your business needs.
