Configure the Magento 2 for Tobacco connector

Connector for Magento 2 for Tobacco is currently in a closed beta for a limited number of marketplaces and will be available later this year. We'll add Magento 2 for Tobacco connector for more marketplaces regularly.

After you install the connector, configure your store to collect tax, validate addresses, and commit transactions in AvaTax.

1 Configure general settings As part of general settings, you need to:
  • Enable the Magneto 2 for Tobacco connection
  • Set up and validate connection with Avalara Excise Tax 
  • Set up and validate connection with AvaTax 
  • Select a Tax Mode
  • Enable Debugging
2 Set up address validation Configure the address validation options for the connector to automatically validate the shipping address.

Configure general settings

Steps

  1. Login to Magento.
  2. Go to Stores > Configuration.
  3. On the Configuration page, expand SALES, and then select Tax.
  4. Under the AvaTax Excise - General settings, provide the following information:
    Enable Enable or disable the connector integration with Magento.
    AvaTax Extension Version View the version of the connector that is installed.
    Sandbox Mode Enable or disable the sandbox mode. Use the sandbox mode for development and testing purposes only.
    Excise Account Number Specify the account number of the AvaTax Excise.
    Excise License Key Specify the license key of AvaTax Excise.
    Excise Company Select a company that you want to use Based on the account number and license key, all companies that belong to the account number are listed.
    Validate Excise License Select to validate the AvaTax Excise license and see if the connection is successful.
    AvaTax Account Number Specify the AvaTax account number.
    AvaTax License Key Specify the AvaTax license key.
    AvaTax Company Select a company that you want to use. Based on the account number and license key, all companies that belong to the account number are listed.
    Validate AvaTax License Select to validate the AvaTax license and see if the connection is successful.
    Tax Mode Select one of the following: 
    • Select Estimate Tax to calculate and show the estimated tax during checkout. 
    • Select Estimate Tax and Submit Transactions to AvaTax to calculate the estimated tax and submit the memos and invoices to AvaTax.
    Commit Submit Transaction This field is enabled only when the Estimate Tax and Submit Transactions to AvaTax is selected in Tax Mode. Select Yes to submit the transactions to AvaTax.
    Taxable Countries Shows the list of supported countries for excise tax calculation. 

    The current version supports excise tax calculation for the United States only.

    Default Shipping Code Specify the shipping code as per your Avalara Account settings. If no shipping code is specified, ‘FR’ is used as the default shipping code.
    Enable Logging Enable or disable logging. 

    Logging functionality is for debugging purposes. If you are experiencing issues, you can review the logs for information about the issues.

    Logging Mode Specify one of the following logging options: 
    • Database: The log is stored in the Magento database.
    • File: The log is stored under the user machine/system directory.
    Keep Database Logs Of Last ‘X’ Days Specify the number of days for which the logs are stored in the database. If nothing is specified, then the logs will be permanently stored.
    API Timeout Specifies the timeout value (in seconds) for the API.
    Keep Queue Entries Of Last ‘X’ Days Specify the number of days for which the queue entries will be stored in the database. If nothing is specified, then the entries will be permanently stored.

Set up address validation

Steps

  1. Under the AvaTax - Address Validation settings, provide the following information:
    Enable Address Validation Select Yes to validate the shipping address of the buyer. Enable address to be validated on both shipping and billing steps.
    Enable Billing Address Validation Select Yes to validate the billing address of the buyer.
    Enable Countries Shows the list of supported countries for address validation. The current version supports address validation for the United States only.
    Allow Customer to Choose Original Address Select one of the following:
    • Yes: Allow the user to choose between the original and validated addresses. Validated addresses are selected by default.
      If this option is set to Yes, both the suggested address and original address are displayed.
    • No: Users will be required to use the validated address or update their original address.
      If this option is set to No, only the valid address is displayed.
    Address Validation Instruction This content is displayed to the customers if their address is invalid and when a suggested address is provided.

    The specified text is displayed above the Suggested Address and Original Address checkboxes during the Review and Payments step.
    Address Validation Error Instruction Type text to display when an error is encountered during address validation.
     
  2. Click Save Config to save the settings.
