What Does AvaTax Update Look at on Transactions from Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Business Central?

AvaTax Update looks at specific information on the transactions you post in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central in order to provide an accurate sales tax calculation.

  • Customer: Once you set the tax area code for a customer, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central automatically sends the necessary information to AvaTax Update with transactions
  • Items (lines): Once you map Avalara tax codes to the items you sell, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central automatically sends the necessary information to AvaTax Update with transactions
  • Addresses: AvaTax Update requires an origin and destination address to calculate tax. Addresses can be:
    • Customer addresses: Used as the ship-to address
    • Location addresses: Used as the ship-from address if entered on the transaction header or line
    • Company addresses: Used as the ship-from address if there is no location set on the transaction
  • Dates: Dates on the transaction help determine tax rates and reporting periods. The posting date is used as the document date in AvaTax Update.
