How to remove a state from the Current Returns page in TrustFile?

Overview

You accidentally added a state you do not need to file and would like to have it removed from your Current Returns page

Environment

TrustFile

Resolution

  • If you are not registered in a state that you have listed in your Current Returns or under States & History
    • Click State settings
    • Toggle the switch at the bottom of the state settings form from Enabled to Disabled
    • Click Save
    • Confirm in your sales platform that you are not setup to collect tax in that state
  • If you are registered in a state but do not have a return due this period and a return is showing on the Current Returns dashboard
    • Click State settings to ensure you have the correct form/frequency set for the state and adjust it if it is incorrect
    • Temporarily disable the state if you are not expected to file this period but will be expected to file next period
      • Click State settings
      • Toggle the switch at the bottom of the state settings form from Enable to Disabled
      • Click Save
      • When you are ready to file for that state click the Show x Disabled States from the top right of the dashboard to re-enable the state
    • Do not file the return, either ignore it and it will be marked as Past Due, or click the I've already filed this return check box to have it marked as filed
      • If tax was due for the period and you do not file the return you are still liable for that tax and it will not be included on any future returns. Contact the state to verify how to handle this tax.
