Set up TrustFile Defaults

This article applies to:Avalara TrustFile

Before you begin using TrustFile, verify your company, user, and payment settings. The company address settings are particularly important since TrustFile uses them to report on tax.

Here's where you find Settings:

Once you select the settings page you want to work with, use the tabs to navigate to other settings.

Company Settings

The items on the Company tab affect how TrustFile reports sales tax. By default, TrustFile uses your business address as the origin and destination address. TrustFile uses the default address when a transaction doesn't have an origin or destination address. Changing these addresses changes the way TrustFile reports sales tax.

Change or view the following information on the Company tab:

  • Federal Employer Identification Number (FEIN)
  • API token
  • Business address
  • Default address
  • Default destination address

User Settings

Change your email address, password, and time zone on the User tab. Due dates for returns are displayed in the local department of revenue's time zone.

Payment & Remittance

Before we go any further, let's make a quick distinction.

  • Remittance accounts fund sales tax liabilities.
  • Credits fund the Avalara sales tax returns service and the remittance of sales tax liabilities on your behalf. One credit is used for each filed return.

View, add, and delete remittance accounts on the Payment & Remittance tab:

  1. To add a remittance account, click Add a Payment Account and provide your banking information. The account funds the liability owed to the state for the corresponding sales tax return prepared by TrustFile.
  2. To delete a remittance account, click the garbage icon.

View transactions that have debited your accounts in the Remittance Transactions window.

Purchase credits

Purchase credits on the Current Returns page.

Now that you've verified settings, import or sync transactions.
