Activate a new company

This article applies to:Avalara Returns for Accountants

After you've added a client's company to Returns for Accountants, you'll need to change the company status to Active before you can prepare or file returns for the company.

Before you begin 

If your client uses AvaTax, send them an account link request. Their account and all companies in the account are added to your Returns for Accountants account once they approve the request. Your client should let you know when they add new companies to their account so that you can change the company status to Active.

Steps

  1. In Returns for Accountants, select Settings > Companies.
  2. Use the Filters pane to find companies with a status of Not configured for compliance or Not yet filing, then select Go to apply the filters.
  3. Find the company you want to activate then select ⋮ > Edit status.
  4. Select a status of First filing or Active.
  5. Select Update.

Now that the company is active, you can schedule their returns.
