Set up system preferences

As an administrator or manager, you can use system preferences to enable or disable specific features in the application based on your business need. 

Unless there is a specific reason to enable a setting, we recommend using the default values set on this page. For example, all the options in the State Settings section are set as off by default. Only if you are dealing with licenses and applications that apply to the Candian provinces, you should enable the Include Candian Provinces option. Similarly, we recommend keeping the Include Mexican States option disabled if you don’t do business in Mexico.  



The changes you define on this page apply to all users in the application.


  1. From the Avalara License Management home page, select the drop-down arrow on the navigation bar, and then select Setup.
  2. Go to System settings > System preferences
  3. Enable or disable the different settings as per your business need.  
    The default due date before expiration is one option you may want to set up within the Other Settings section. If you always want a due date to be a certain number of days before the expiration date, you can enable the Default Due Date to X amount of days before Expiration Date and enter the number of days. If you have specific cases based on license types and jurisdiction where the number of days needs to be greater or smaller than default values, you can select the Create Rules for Specific License Types link and set the appropriate rule.
  4. Select Save.
