Create a message type

You can send messages to the ALM users using the Messages widget on the Dashboard page. This widget is available only when the Messaging Widget setting is enabled on the Setup > System settings > System preferences page. 

Every message you add to the application can have a message type selected from the Message type drop-down list. You can use message types to classify messages into different categories. As a manager or administrator, you can also add custom message types to define new categories of messages. 

Before you begin

You can’t edit or delete default message types. You can only edit or delete a custom message type. 


  1. From the Avalara License Management home page, select the drop-down arrow on the navigation bar, and then select Setup.
  2. Go to Customize > Message types.  
  3. Select New message type and enter the message type name. 
  4. Click Save
