Edit Avalara Consumer Use transactions

Review imported consumer use transactions and modify specific fields or values.

Avalara Consumer Use is an add-on for AvaTax. Adjust transactions in Avalara Consumer Use and then forward them to your AvaTax company to manage reports and returns.


Before you begin

Individual transactions cannot be added.

If you need to modify a transaction's Vendor, Doc Date, Doc Code, or Line Number, consider deleting it and importing the new one.

Edit transaction details

  1. In Avalara Consumer Use, go to Transactions > Assess and edit.
  2. Filter your transactions to narrow the results.
    • Filtered transactions are organized by status and category. Select a category tab to narrow your view further
  3. Click the pencil icon to edit a single transaction. Use the checkboxes and select Adjust Taxability to edit them in bulk.
    • Transaction details
      View and edit transaction and accrual amounts, assign item or tax codes, and select an accrual method.
      When adjusting taxability in bulk, only updated fields are applied to transaction information. For example, saving a new Purpose value but leaving the Item Code unchanged will not remove the current item code.

    • Additional details
      View and edit address information or company fields, such as cost center or purpose. 
    • Custom fields
      Add values to custom fields.
    • Transaction audit log
      Track when transactions were imported, calculated, modified, or allocated, and any relevant comments.
  4. Select Save. Comments are required after a transaction is modified. 

When you are finished with editing, allocate the transaction or change the status to finish it later.
