Run an exemption report

This article applies to:AvaTax

Use exemption reports to get more information about your exempt customers, and transactions where you've exempted customers from tax but don't have a current exemption certificate on file.

AvaTax begins updating report data every 30 minutes, so you may need to wait to see your most recent transactions in your reports. Go to the Transactions page for up-to-the-minute activity.

Learn about Reports in AvaTax.

  1. In AvaTax, select Reports.
    The Reports page opens.
  2. Select Exemption Reports.
  3. Select the type of report you want to run in the Report Name dropdown.
    • Sales tax exemption detail by jurisdiction
Shows exempt and non-taxable sales details based on your committed AvaTax transactions.
    • Exemption exposure
Shows your total exempt transactions that don't have current exemption certificates on file. View links in the report to see this exposure summarized by customer or by transaction.
    • Exemption exposure aging
Shows groups of exempt transactions that don't have current exemption certificates on file. Transactions display in four groups - current, greater than 30 days, greater than 60 days, and greater than 90 days.
    • Sales tax exemption certificates
Shows exemptions in your AvaTax company based on criteria you set. Exemptions display in a spreadsheet on individual lines that include both customer and certificate information. Select the columns to include in your report - these are the same columns from the Exemptions Import Toolkit. This report is intended primarily for troubleshooting, and the number of certificates you see on the report may not match the number of certificate you see in the Exemptions section of AvaTax.
  4. Report details options change depending on the report you select. Select details to filter exemption information you want to include in the report.
  5. Select whether you want to preview or export the report, and then select Generate Report.
