Import items and product information for tariff code classification

Import items that you sell to non-US customers before you request tariff code classifications.


  1. In AvaTax, go to Settings > What You Sell.
  2. Select Import Items.
  3. Select the Tariff Code Template and then download a template file in .csv or .xlsx format.
    • Download the Example File to view required, recommended, and conditional fields
  4. Create the import file using the Tariff code template guidelines.
    • Don't rename, reorder, or remove columns in the template
    • If you don't have information for a recommended or conditional field, leave it blank
  5. On the Import Items page in AvaTax, drag and drop or upload your file.

    Importing this file does NOT automatically trigger classification requests for your product catalog. Submit classification requests for these items after your import is complete. 

Upload times vary. Wait for it to complete before closing your window or navigating to another page. When the import is complete, the page refreshes and your product catalog is displayed.
